Thought that you had heard the last from me; well, here's one more before the end of June.

June PDM was a success

·         June's Professional Development Meeting attracted 35 professionals in resource management.

·         The PDM was special:  New Location, Reduced Price, and Better facility according to many.  It was a fun evening and based upon the general comments, we will return there next fall.

·         We recognized about ten individuals with multiple 5-year service pins and our latest CPIM, Kimberly DeWald from Cessna.

·         Company of the Year Award went to ACCESS GROUP, LLC for their long standing and continued support of APICS and our chapter.  Pat Gaughan, President of ACCESS GROUP, accepted the award along with his 5-year service pin.

·         Member of the Year Award went to Steve Plaster, CPIM, Past President, for his dedication and teaching of CPIM certification classes at Southwestern College.   Steve was unable to attend the PDM due to a final test, however he did receive his award a week later at the Board meeting.

·         Top Management Night attendance could have been better  - Kevin Parker, CPIM, brought his supervisor, Gena Larson, {CPIM candidate} from LSI Logic.   Expect that this event will be earlier next year so more managers can attend.

·         Chapter guests present included:  Deb Caldwell, Director of Membership for APICS Region 5 and Rhonda Brown, VP Publicity/Newsletter from South East Kansas chapter.

·         Board of Directors for 2003-2004 installed:  The current and next years Board of Directors were introduced to the members present.  The electronic ballot conducted in May was successful with a unanimous approval of the slate of officers so the new Board takes office on July 1, 2003.

·         Outstanding ProgramRhonda Lummus, PhD, CFPIM, CIRM, presented a very interesting talk on "Creating Flexible Supply Chains".    How flexible is your supply chain?  We learned that it is only as flexible as it's weakest link.   She is an Associate Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Iowa State and very active in APICS.   If you have questions, please see her website: www.bus.iastate.edu/rlummus/  .

Next PDM is Sept. 9, 2003   As many of you know, the new Board meets during the summer to get organized for the coming year.   The next Professional Development Meeting is September 9th --- watch for an announcement in late August.

Again, THANK YOU all very much for making the past year a great success.  It would not have been possible without all of you doing a part.   We celebrated your chapter's fortieth anniversary this year {yes, 40 seems like a long time but we did it!}.  We are hoping for another Platinum Passport Award this year.   Remember:  Your new board wants and still needs your help.  You can help make next year and the years to come much more successful by getting involved with the chapter activities and volunteering for a committee or other needed tasks.

"Lifelong learning for Lifetime Success."

With warmest regards and best wishes to all,

Ron Lunsford, CPIM,  President 2002-2003  {but not for long}.
