Main presentation:
AS9108 Aerospace Standard

The AS9108 family of documents was created by the International Aerospace Quality Group to collect statistically valid methods for accepting products that achieve the stated degrees of protection. The base AS9108 document gives general definitions and requirements applicable to all methods. The other 4 documents (AS9108/1 through AS9108/4) discuss requirements specific to methods involving Isolated Lot Sampling, Lot Sampling using Attributes or Variables, Process Control Methods, and Special Methods. All AS9108 product acceptance methods must have a statistically valid measure of consumer protection. These documents have been reviewed from both the perspective of customers and suppliers. The customer perspective provides what requirements are sufficient to satisfy engineering and legal requirements. The supplier perspective provides a check on what is possible and flexibility. The needs of design engineers, regulators, and quality engineers have also been considered. All AS9108 product acceptance methods must have a statistically valid measure of consumer protection.

A pre-session will discuss an expansion of Operating Characteristic curves to assess performances of sampling plans in AS9108/1 and AS9108/2.

Speaker: Dr. Scott Singleton is the subject matter expert for accepting products using statistical methods and is a Quality and Lean consultant at the Boeing Commercial Airplanes factory in Wichita. He has studied Quality Engineering Statistical applications since 1996 and has experiences with statistical simulations, SPC, testing, and forecasting from 1987 as part of various Industrial Engineering roles. He has provided extensive input into making AS9108 both effective and doable.

Scott holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Statistics from Iowa State University, a Masters degree in Engineering Management Science from Wichita State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Wichita State University. He has a Kansas Professional Engineering (P.E.) license. He us currently Vice Chair of the Wichita Chapter of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and ASQ certifications as a Quality Engineer, Reliability Engineer, Quality Manager, and Quality Auditor.
