By TYING Lean Principles into Information
Technology Department and processes, Triumph Structures – Wichita, Inc. has
benefited immeasurably.
Through standardizing, right-sizing,
documenting, reducing technology complexity, and empowering our employees,
we have maintained I/T support staff levels, while the company has more than
doubled in size in the last 3 years.
In 2005, we deployed a new Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) System within our organization using Lean Event
practices – including Employee Involvement, ownership definition, value
stream mapping, and simulation. The deployment was completed on time and
considerably under budget.
Additionally, we have developed over 50
electronic ANDONs into our ERP Business Systems, which provides IMMEDIATE
notifications to employees regarding abnormal data and conditions -- before
it causes production delays.
These electronic ANDONs were instrumental
in the deployment of a new barcoded labor tracking system, which provided
our production and management team with information related to part status,
scheduling, and capacity planning. After only 3 months of deployment, we
were at nearly 100% utilization of labor tracking and part movement.
Additionally, by focusing on autonomated
systems rather than automated systems, we have been able to RAPIDLY deploy
new systems, which have increased organizational productivity and data
accuracy.
