The 2007 Economic Outlook for
the State of Kansas
Ms. Janet Harrah, Director Center for
Economic Development and Business Research, Wichita State University.
Starting as a graduate research assistant
at Wichita State University (WSU) in 1987, Ms. Harrah became a full-time
staff person in 1989. Harrah was appointed director on July 1, 1994.
Ms. Harrah's areas of expertise are the
demographic and economic characteristics of the Kansas population and labor
force. She is recognized as an authority on the economic forecasting for the
Wichita and south central Kansas region. She is frequently asked to analyze
economic trends and the impact of current events on the area economy and
local initiatives.
In her role as director, Harrah has
expanded the center's research capabilities, focusing on enhancing the
information available to support local government, economic development and
business initiatives.
Ms. Harrah represents the state of Kansas
on the regional economic roundtable of the Kansas City Federal Reserve. She
is also a member of the Association for University Business and Economic
Research.
Ms. Harrah earned a bachelor's degree in
economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master's degree in
economics from Wichita State.
