Last month
the APICS Student Chapter @WSU continued to strive towards giving its members a
valuable experience.
Who
wants to be an IME?
The month
kicked off hosting the (Industrial and Manufacturing engineering ImfgE
department of Wichita State University Event of the Year along with other
student organizations like IIE, SWE and ASQ. APICS members and industrial
engineers tried their luck at the hot seat to become this year’s most valuable
IE. Relatively tough questions from the field of Operations Management made the
game an interesting contest. At the end of the day this was an excellent
“icebreaker” for the students to interact with the industrial engineering
professionals. We thank Airtechnics, Cessna and Spirit AeroSystems for their
support.
Student Case Competition
2008:
The student
case competition held by the Great Lakes District of APICS in Chicago has become
a tradition for the WSU APICS members to attend every year. Since this was the
13th annual student case competition, 22 Schools competed for
the grand prize of a free ticket to the International APICS conference at Kansas
City. This case study was to come up with a solution to increase the
productivity and the decrease the inventory accuracy errors at the picking area
of a distribution center .The WSU Chapter took a respectable 3rd
place in which was thought to be the most competitive year. We thank the Wichita
Parent chapter for their support and strong belief in the student chapter. For
