The WSU student chapter has been actively demonstrating their desire for educational excellence. Several of the general meetings that the students hold are partly dedicated to educational matter. This year alone they have had student presentations on topics such as Supply Chain and E-commerce. They don't always rely on the student to be the 'Subject Matter Experts'. |
| On February 18th the highlight of the students general meeting was a presentation delivered by George Petrik. | |

George is a member in good standing of the Senior Chapter. The focus of his discussion was 'An insight to JIT and MRP'. He began by laying the initial foundation of these all too familiar buzzwords. Nearly all of the students had been previously exposed to the concepts, so it was easy for George to flow through the basics and effectively dive into some examples of the applications. As with all 'buzzwords', it was pointed out that MRP and JIT alone are not an absolute fix to all situations. He took this opportunity to note the deficiencies that they possessed by themselves. MRP and JIT have some less than favorable qualities that if ignore would be nothing less than detrimental to the system that they are being implemented into. There is a certain level of tailoring that needs to take place to accommodate the specifics needs of the company. George suggested that nearly all companies used a derivation of both processes. Our guest speaker entertained questions from the student members as they arose, and effectively ensured that there was a common consensus to his train of thought. More than once the discussion slid into tangent as George cleared the misconceptions that surfaced as a result of his guidance. The feedback that followed George's presentation in the days to come was filled with a string of positive remarks. The student chapter is thankful to have such an individual that is willing to offer their time for the betterment of the society. It is our hope that this will only be the first of many more similar educational meetings. |
