President's Corner by Steve Plaster, CPIM

Happy Holidays! Due to my tardiness in preparing this month's corner, I have the opportunity to welcome you all back from Thanksgiving. For many of us it is an opportunity to recharge and to reconnect with family members who are located throughout the country. I hope that this finds each of you well and that you all took some time for yourselves over this holiday weekend.

From an APICS perspective, Ron Lundsford, Kate Keltz, and Ron Kammerrer had the opportunity to travel to San Antonio for this years Volunteer Leadership Workshop held at this year's National Convention. In addition, our student chapter sent 18 to the National Conference. That's a lot of bodies to stuff into one hotel room. It is a great pleasure to see so many young men and women taking charge of their professional development during their college years. And what a great base of support for Larry Whitman who received the Student Chapter Mentor of the Year at the conference. Congratulations to Larry and his many hours spent devoted to the development of the student chapter. Once again the student chapter received the Gold Passport award for excellence in Chapter Management. This is their second year of participation in the Chapter Management program and their second Gold Award. Three more years and they will be a platinum chapter.

Congratulations to Kate Keltz, past president, for leading the chapter to its 12th (or 13th) consecutive Platinum Award for the Wichita chapter. This was also announced at National. Kate worked very hard to maintain this award for your chapter. Thank you Kate for your dedication and service. Each of you can help us in maintaining this level of achievement as well. We receive points for our member's publications, visits to other chapters, and presentations. The publications and presentations need to be Resource Management related but do not have to be to an APICS audience and do not have to be a national publication. Publications and Presentations also earn you points for certification maintenance, which will be coming due in just over a year. I encourage everyone who was certified prior to 1998 to review their maintenance plan and make certain that you are on plan. The due date will be upon us before we know it.

That's it. Short and sweet. Have a great holiday and I hope to see all of you at the December PDM (worth a point for maintenance).
