| December and 2001 is almost gone -- where does the time go? And 2003 will soon be here! What? That is over a year away, right? |
Not quite, if you were certified before January 1998 and want to keep that CPIM or CFPIM behind your name. APICS, The Educational Society of Resource Management, wants us to maintain a high certification standard by staying current. | |
| Therefore on the month of your certification in 2002 {that could be next month for some}, they will be mailing a 1-year renewal notice and an APICS Cert. Maint. Bulletin to your address of record {is it current?}. According to that bulletin, they want you to maintain "your professional development journal" {on pages 12 & 13} to document your resource management points. You transfer that info to the Cert. Maint. Application form {CMA} and return the CMA with the appropriate fee before the end of your certification month in 2003. Will you be ready? There is really no substitute for reading the bulletin -- it is downloadable from APICS www.apics.org, just click on downloads and scroll down to Cert. Maint. Bulletin, or call 1-800-444-APICS (2742) and order Stock #09033 free. You can pick up a copy from Andy at the next PDM. The bulletin describes some of the many ways you can accumulate the 75 points for CPIM or 100 points for CFPIM. Several examples are shown along with frequently asked questions. One possible example is as follows: |

| Completion of a CPIM or CIRM certification test counts as 10 points. Examinations are NOT required to maintain certification unless your certification status lapses five years past your suspension date.
You worked long and hard to achieve that certification, don't procrastinate. It is a good idea to start working on maintenance points right now. The bulletin has answers. If you still have questions, please let us know. THANK YOU, |
