The Educational Society for Resource Management,
Wichita Chapter 71
February 2000
Our January 2000 dinner meeting speaker materialized as three great speakers; Don Blake, Jerell Smith and Steve McConnell all of the Boeing Lean Manufacturing - Kiazan office. Our thanks to all three for explaining the processes, successes and lessons learned over the past five years of Just- n-Time Implementation.

On the weekend following the January Dinner meeting, the APICS Region 5 held its winter meeting in Branson, Missouri. The region meetings are structured to provide both personal and professional improvement opportunities. At this meeting, we learned about Litton Corporation and the business climate in the electronics industry. Another part of the meeting let us take the Myers-Briggs Personality Test. In addition to discussing the individual's personality we also discussed the group's personality and how people will work best together. Each region meeting provides a different aspect of improvement.

I am really impressed that our Wichita State University Student Chapter of APICS was able to send 5 students to the region meeting. Mike Staley, student chapter president, organized a tour for the students on the way to Branson.

The student chapter's zest to complete passport awards book enthused many of the region staff. This is the student chapter's first attempt to achieve an award and they are well on their way! Good Work!!

The region meetings are a time to learn what is happening at the region and international society level. Some of the changes that are coming include the ability to do group testing. Group testing will allow an entire class or company department to take the test at the same time. It does require two months advance planning and a few other details. On the topic of testing, if you are planning on taking a CPIM test after September 1st, 2000 it will be several months until you get the test results returned to you. However, APICS Society hopes to return to immediate feedback on your test results by 2001.

Finally, the chapter is looking for some volunteers. The pay is great and the experience is fabulous. If you are able to help by taking a position on the board or simply volunteering for a special project please call Kate Keltz or me.

With Warm regards on a winter's evening...
