James Kemp James Kemp, CPIM (pictured with Teena) is a Methods Process Analyst for the Boeing Company in their 747 Struts Responsibility Center. Jim's interest in APICS began with courses in Supply Chain Management offered by Boeing. As a life-long learner he then pursued certification through the courses offered at Southwestern College Professional Studies Center. Jim offers support to others considering becoming certified that the certification process was a tough but very rewarding experience.
Steve Wheeler, CPIM (not pictured) became certified in December 1999. Steve offers encouraging words to those contemplating certification, "now that it's behind me, it wasn't all that difficult. I'd like to thank everyone for his or her support. It made it a lot easier." When asked for suggestions, Steve gave an outline of steps that may assist others in their APICS certification efforts.
apics
1. CPIM prep - Datachem software.
  1. Set a goal of 95% correct on the study sessions before certification testing.
  2. Practice with the computer course until scoring at least 80%.
  3. After attaining 80% on the software quizzes, start printing copies of the questions missed with the answers and use those for study purposes.
2. CPIM Review Course
  1. Set a goal of 95% correct on study questions at the end of each section.
  2. Read the chapter to understand the questions missed.
3. Sample Tests
  1. Set a goal of 95% correct.
  2. Look for logic for correct answers to questions missed in review courses, Datachem software, etc.

4. General
  1. Look for gaps in understanding between the correct answer and your answer.
  2. Carefully read the intent of the question, (ditto the answers). Lesson learned (with much pain).
  3. Knowing the logic behind the questions in the study material is important for the Certification Tests, the same questions won't be there but the logic will.
  4. The sooner you address the setbacks that you encounter in your journey the easier they are to overcome.
  5. I believe the study materials listed in items 1, 2, & 3 are adequate for preparation for the certification tests.
Please let me know if I can be of assistance as you pursue your goal of CPIM certification.
