| CPIM targets the managers and the planners who are responsible for high level decisions. Fundamentals targets those workers who execute these plans every day. Fundamentals also targets those just entering the planning and manufacturing management fields. In this month's PDM, we will introduce Fundamentals of Inventory Management and demonstrate a 45 - 50 minute section of the program, complete with the exercises that support the material. We encourage you to bring some of your new employees so that we can get the feedback from the target audience themselves. This would also be a good time to bring along the Training Director, General Manager, or President. An educated workforce is one of the best productivity tools available. And with APICS Fundamental of Materials Management, there is now an execution level education program available to your companies. I will also ask each of you to bring along some idea as to how this program would play in your company. Should we make it available on site during the day or should this be presented after hours off site? How many participants might there be from your companies? In the spirit of involvement and interaction, I will allow you, the audience, to make the final choice of which portion of the program I will present. The choices are 1) LIFO/FIFO/Weighted Average Cost and Standard Costs, 2) Identify, Define, and Calculate the Cost of Inventory, 3) Develop and Demonstrate the Min/Max, Two-Bin, and Kanban Systems, and 4) Needs and Methods of Maintaining Inventory Records Accuracy. Vote by e-mailing me at Steveofapics@prodigy.net by Nov. 9. We will have Participants Guides available for review and will have literature regarding this exciting new program. The goal is to begin the program 1st quarter of 2001. If you cannot attend the PDM but are interested in this program, please contact me. If you have a job posting, article of interest and or suggestion. Please send to Rita Russell. |

| I would like to introduce you to Fundamentals of Materials Management |
||||
| For so long, APICS has focused education on the CPIM. However, the CPIM workshops concentrate on preparing experienced practitioners for certification, not on educating new employees on best practices. CPIM is not meant to be an educational program. But the need for basic, application based education is clear. Introducing Fundamentals of Materials Management, a 4 module educational program designed to introduce learners to the concepts of materials management without the pressure of certification. The program is designed at a pace and level that is better suited to those who have not dedicated themselves to continuing education within the fields of Resource Management. CONTINUE |
