| Dear Parent Chapter, Over the month of September and early October, there were quite a number of events that took place in the APICS Student Chapter. The APICS PDM took place the day after we presented the last report. APICS student chapter was awarded the gold award at the PDM. The Student Chapter won the gold award for the second time in a row and the chapter level paper competition winners were awarded cash prizes for their winning papers. Meanwhile, Dr. Whitman was awarded the 'Student Chapter Mentor Award' at National Level. Overall it was a memorable day for the Student Chapter. We then had a welcome party with a membership campaign in which we played a game called "Who wants to be an Industrial Engineer," on Sept 21, 2001, the winners picked up, among others, partial and full memberships to APICS. We gave a brief presentation on APICS, objectives and benefits of it and by the end of the night we had recruited 12 new members.
Dr. Whitman was the host for the evening, and it went extremely well. We joined the parent chapter in 'Thayer Aerospace' plant tour on Oct 9, 2001. Last but not the least on October 12, 2001, Brian Grantham presented his paper "Using a Mixed Integer Programming Model to Blend Trimmings in the Meat Industry" to APICS members. This paper won the first place at the Region Level for the APICS paper competition. The planning for the APICS conference in San Antonio is going well so far. We shall update you with relevant information as we go by. We thank the parent chapter for its continuous support and encouragement. Sincerely, |

| Dear Parent Chapter We are planning to take 19 students to the San Antonio conference. (We limited the number to nineteen.) We got one partial scholarship to attend the conference. We thank the parent chapter president Steve Plaster for forwarding our applications. I, once again, thank the parent chapter for its extended support to the student chapter. Special thanks to Kate as she is taking some students with her to the conference. Our welcome party's Millionaire game was a great success and everyone loved it. Thanks to Dr. Whitman, he once again proved that he is the funniest professor at WSU. Our membership campaign also went well, twelve new members joined APICS at the party. I thank all the students who participated in the event and all the members who helped to organize the event on behalf of APICS.
