CHAPTER RELATIONS
How can your chapter help members who are down...sized?
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, in August 2001, manufacturing industries accounted for 41 percent of all mass layoffs and 49 percent of initial unemployment claims filed. Be sure your members and customers know that APICS and their chapters are part of their support network. In addition to the employment resources offered by many chapters, we urge members to use the APICS Career Center in their job search. Encourage your members to visit www.apics.org for more information about the APICS Career Center. Attached is an article that you can use in your chapter newsletter or on your chapter's Web site to inform your members about the Career Center. To download an electronic copy, please visit www.members.apics.org/chapters/bytes.asp.

Benefits Extension for Unemployed Members Program
APICS, in partnership with local chapters, offers unemployed members a six-month extension of membership benefits without cost. Members who meet the criteria for the Benefits Extension for Unemployed Members Program must apply for this extension through their local chapters. Chapters then approve the requests and waive or determine the chapter dues assessment. Each chapter is responsible for determining its own method for verifying the member's unemployment status. All paperwork (statements of authority and renewal forms) must reach APICS headquarters within thirty days of the membership expiration date. Attached is a copy of the application for your reference.
